Cheating at Roulette Systems

Here is a list of methods from the very recent to the distant past that have been used for cheating at roulette:

Roulette Wheel Tampering

In the past, it was reported that a casino owner or a player may have tampered with roulette wheels in order to cheat at the game. In the case of the players, there were actually some daring souls who have snuck into the casinos after hours just to tamper with the wheels. In this method, they use substances that would make the ball more likely to enter certain pockets, or place specific materials under a number of different pockets in order to affect the bounce of the ball.

Past Posting

Past Posting is a form of roulette cheating that requires a very skilled player. On its most basic, this method involves slight of hand. It involves the act of adding chips to a winning number, or removing of chips from a losing number after the ball has already dropped into the wheel. Your chance to do this is when the dealer is checking the number, and therefore must look either to their left or right before turning back to the table to place the marker on the number. According to some patrons of this system, the best position to do this from is the far end of the table, furthest away from the wheel and the dealer.

There is also another well-known method for doing this past posting, that is, to distract the dealer somehow with conversation, with an attractive member of the opposite sex or an accomplice pretending to fall over at the right time. Well, it is clear that to make this strategy possible, you have to have good eyesight to see the winning number from such a distance and the hands of a magician to get your chips on or off without being noticed. This would possibly work, but this will not be a long term strategy for you. But, today with the introduction of cameras at the table, past posting is impossible to work because if the dealer and pit bosses don’t get you, the “eye in the sky” eventually will.

Tripping of the Ball

Tripping of the ball is the form of cheating at roulette which is usually undertaken by casino owners. This method involves drilling of hole in the upper ball track just underneath the rim. In the hole, a small spring pin is placed under it, just below the outside of the roulette table. The dealer will then operate a small lever under the table that would force the pin against the spring. It is this operation which would allow a skilled dealer to create a sort of protrusion on the ball track at just the right time to trip the ball from a particular result.

Ball Control

This is so far one of the unproven forms of cheating at roulette. Many casino patrons have claimed that dealers are able to control where the ball goes with skillful throws. However, as I’ve said that it is not possible to prove this form of cheating, so if you are a bit worried about the outcome if you will apply this method, then simply place your bet after the wheel is spun.

Magnets

In the game of roulette, magnets are the most commonly used form tool for cheating. These were used in crooked gambling houses of the past, but experts said that the casinos of today would not benefit from risking their billions of dollars of profit every year by cheating their patrons.

In this method, four electromagnets that are placed equally around the wheel area are basically considered. Then, the ball would need a steel ball within its center. Then, the dealer would employ controls that are hidden to activate the different magnets to subtly steer the ball away from the heavily bet numbers or wheel areas.

There is also another tactic used in this method, that is, magnets were placed within the pockets themselves. So, when a steel cored ball is added to the mix, it would tend to gravitate towards these pockets. In turn, the dealer could alternate between steel core and normal balls as necessary, but this highly depends on the bets.

High Tech Cheating Systems

With several advancements in science and technology, a number of systems used in cheating at roulette came out, such as computers, stop watches, and lasers. There was one recent report which revealed that detectives in the United Kingdom investigated a claim that two men and a woman used a laser scanner hidden in a mobile phone that was linked to a computer to help beat a roulette wheel. The system they used was called “sector targeting”. It works based on the idea that once a player identifies the point at which the ball is released and the point it passes after one or two spins, he or she can utilize that information to calculate the decaying orbit of the ball and anticipate the area on the wheel that the ball will come to rest. It is noted that even though this system cannot predict exactly the pocket to which the ball will fall in, it helps to enhance the probability of the roulette player.
